About Opening Eyes to Mathematics

Opening Eyes to Mathematics introduces third and fourth grade children to the beauty and excitement of mathematics. Students use models, manipulatives, and visual thinking to explore mathematics, develop understanding, and solve problems.

In an Opening Eyes classroom, students are actively engaged as they investigate and model mathematical situations. Aligned to NCTM Standards, the program helps students develop a strong sense of number and number operations while also incorporating geometry, measurement, probability, and statistics.

Lessons are set in a problem-solving context based on familiar experiences, allowing children to recognize how math is related to other fields such as science, language arts, and social studies. Students discover relationships that help them see math as an integral part of their world rather than as a collection of isolated skills.
