Building a Professional Learning Community
Grade level: K-5
Share the success teacher leaders experience when they transform the way mathematics is taught. Explore what a small enthusiastic group—or individual—can do to ignite change. Experience collegial models and practice instructional strategies that will assist you and your professional learning community as you work to improve student achievement while deepening your understanding of mathematics.
In our four days together we will:
- Create a long term vision for math education in your school situation
- Examine the role of professional learning communities in achieving your vision
- Experience a professional learning community (PLC) through collaborative reflections on mathematics, student work and research
- Learn ways to establish a PLC that is safe, high-functioning and effects high student achievement
- Experience instructional strategies that nurture discourse and sense-making applicable to both a PLC and the Bridges classroom
- Examine the concept of leadership and its implications for collaborative work
