Bridges Grade 5, Unit 2 and October Number Corner

Greetings, 5th grade teachers! As you prepare for Unit 2 and October Number Corner, here are a couple things to consider...

Number Corner

Remember to download your October Number Corner planner. On it, we have one suggested change. On Tuesday, October 5th, the Calendar Grid workout states that students will do page 27 of the Number Corner Student Book. That NCSB worksheet reveals calendar markers 1-10. Since this is the 5th of the month, consider holding off on the workout until Monday, October 11, an extra day on this month's calendar planner, so that students do not see the pattern revealed prematurely.

Unit 2

Consider using the Sharing Responsibilities for Advance Preparation Charts to make grade level team planning easier. Session 1 opens with "The Great Wall of Base Ten." You'll need to prepare copies of Blackline 2.1, "Base Ten Mats." You can reduce the number of photocopies needed if you make two copies of Blackline 2.1, cut out the mats around the dark outer line, and fit them carefully onto one master copy. (The original blackline could not be designed that way as space was needed for those who wished to 3-hole punch the blackline.) You'll then have four mats/page rather than two mats/page.
