Reader Question: Classroom Access to iPod Touch or iPad?

Do you use iPod touch or iPad technology in your classroom? If so, could you comment with some specifics about your situation? Does every child have access to an iPod touch? Do you use an iPad? Do you use them for math? In what capacity? With gifted students? Students needing additional support?

I'd like to know how prevalent the use of mobile devices are within Bridges classrooms and begin to post links to math apps--primarily free options--if teachers have interest in the topic. Thank you!

Oregon Math Standards Bridges Charts

Teena Staller, Instructional Math Coach for Medford School District in Oregon, created charts showing which Oregon Math Core Standards are addressed in each Bridges Unit and Number Corner month by grade level. She has graciously given permission to share them here:

Bridges Grade 1 Advice for Unit 3, Sessions 11-21

We left off after discussing the first 10 sessions of Unit 3 last month. You’ll probably have 18-20 teaching days this month. In my “most behind” year teaching first grade I had just started Unit 3, and was able to cover Sessions 2-19 in January. I really turned on the gas that month! I did 18 sessions in 20 days, taking two days with two of the sessions. If you are behind, you need to do the same thing! You need to be ready to start the penguin unit early in February.

Number Corner Grade 1 Advice for January

We’re on to Volume Two! The author told me long ago that the January-June challenges are more critical than what has happened so far in Number Corner.

For your calendar markers you have two choices this month.

Number Corner Grade 2 Advice for January

Three important new components appear this month! This month you’ll need 15-20 minutes a day, covering no more than 3 components per session.
