New Book on Math Games and Word Problems

Looking for a little summer reading? I've been enjoying David Moursund and Robert Albrecht's new ebook, Using Math Games and Word Problems to Increase the Math Maturity of K-8 Students. (Follow link to view Table of Contents and Sample Chapter.)

The authors help teachers to understand and evaluate student math maturity while suggesting many ideas that will pique children's interest. Chapters explore games and word problems that can be used with a wide variety of ages and levels. Try WordsWorth Plus. Or a number version of "Mother, may I?" Probability and place value games. Word problems with dominoes. The dice game of Pig. You'll also find blackline masters and a list of free resources that can be found on the web.

Since many of the games use inexpensive manipulatives such as coins, dominoes, and dice, children could continue play at home with their families after learning the strategies at school.
