Jami Smith

The Math Learning Center is making updates to all of our free math apps. We’ve listened to your feedback, and we think you’re going to love the new features.

So far, we’ve updated 3 of our 6 apps. Geoboard, Number Rack, and Number Pieces are all ready to download in the Ipad version. Web version updates will follow by April 1. Here’s a list of the new features:

Geoboard

  • Updated look and feel
  • Circular board added for explorations with angles, fractions, and time measurement
  • Shapes can be duplicated then moved, rotated, or flipped to explore symmetry and congruency
  • Grid lines can be displayed with or without numbering to more easily calculate area and identify shape locations
  • Drawing tools added for annotating work and showing understanding
  • Math text tool added for writing equations and expressions

Number Rack

  • Updated look and feel
  • Improved bead movement
  • Colors in rows 6 to 10 can be reversed to distinguish (or not) groupings of 25 beads
  • Drawing tools added for annotating work and showing understanding
  • Math text tool added for writing equations and expressions

Number Pieces

  • Updated look and feel
  • Horizontal 10s pieces and edge pieces can now be added directly from the tray, saving time
  • Individual pieces and groups of pieces can be duplicated
  • Drawing tools expanded with a straight-line pen and additional color selections
  • Math text tool added for writing equations and expressions

Updates for Number Line, Pattern Shapes and Number Frames apps will be ready in early summer.
