Brain Science for Educators and Parents

David Moursund

What do you know about your own brain and the brains of others? More specifically, what do you know about the brains of the students in your classroom? And how do you use this information as you teach math and other subjects?

I’ve just completed writing a book, Brain Science for Educators and Parents. It is available free! The 10 chapters cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Brain science applications to math education
  • Human and computer intelligence
  • Mythologies about the human brain (You may be surprised by some things that you believe are “facts,” but aren’t.)
  • Creativity, curiosity, commitment, and critical thinking
  • Brain disorders and damage, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, and concussion
  • Long-term, short-term, and sensory memory
  • Neuroplasticity—the changing brain
  • The teenage brain
  • The aging brain

Each chapter includes ideas for using the information with students. The book contains an annotated list of about 50 videos related to brain science and education.  I hope you find the book a helpful and accessible resource on a fascinating topic.
