Educator Spotlight: Sandra Morassutti

Amberlee Cooper, Content Marketing Manager

Meet Sandra Morassutti

What grade do you teach? (Or what is your title or role?)

I currently teach grade 2/3 French immersion.

What school, district, or institution do you work for? Location?

I teach with the Toronto Catholic District School Board which is located in Toronto, Canada.

Who inspired you to become an educator?

My mom! She always knew I worked well with children and encouraged me to pursue this field.

What motivates you?

Seeing a child's face light up when they understand a new concept.

What advice would you give to your first-year teacher self?

Sometimes, going deeper is better than going further, especially in math!

What do you wish more people knew about being an educator?

Being an educator requires more than knowledge of the curriculum. It requires dedication, hard work, patience, a desire to understand our students and most importantly, love for what we do and who we teach.

What do you love most about Bridges curriculum, Bridges math apps, or MLC?

I find the math apps in MLC make learning more visual and tactile for students. They are also incredibly user-friendly and work seamlessly with tablets and computers.

What do you love most about working with students?

As a student, I always thought math only ever has one answer. When I began teaching math and working with children, I began to realize how complex math is (it is never just right and wrong!) and that there are various ways of knowing and demonstrating our knowledge.

What’s your math story? In other words, how do you feel about math and why?

I've come to think of math as something naturally beautiful. As I've learned more about math and teaching math, I've realized (with the help of my students) that math is everywhere.
